Sia Zeus che Poseidon si erano innamorati di Teti, la bellissima Nereide.
Ma, appena seppero che, chiunque l'avesse sposata, avrebbe generato un figlio che sarebbe diventato più forte del padre, rinunciarono entrambi all'idea e cercarono un uomo mortale a cui darla in sposa.
Scelsero Peleo, reduce da molte disavventure.
Ma non fu facile per lui averla, poiché Teti non ne voleva sapere e, per sfuggirgli si trasformava continuamente in diverse forme animali.
Alla fine Peleo riuscì a vincere con l'inganno.
In una scena dipinta all'nterno di una kylix, il ceramografo Duride ha rappresentato la fase della lotta in cui Teti si trasforma in leone.
Io l'ho riprodotta, dipingendola con engobbio su un piatto decorativo col diametro di 26cm.

Both Zeus and Poseidon had fallen in love with Teti, the beautiful Nereid.
But as soon as they learned that, whoever married her, she would generate a son who would become stronger than his father, they both gave up on the idea and looked for a mortal man to marry her.
They chose Peleo, back from many misadventures.
But it was not easy for him to have her, since Teti did not want him and, to escape, she continually transformed herself into different animal forms.
Eventually Peleo managed to win by deception.
In a scene painted inside a kylix, the ceramic artist Douris represented the phase of the struggle in which Teti turns into a lion.
I reproduced it painting with engobes on a decorative plate with a diameter of 10.2 inches ( 26cm ).
