On the FLOATING PIERS, my experience. La mia esperienza sullaPASSERELLA di CHRISTO.

Ieri sono stata sui "floating piers", la passerella di Christo, come la chiamiamo noi.
Arrivata in stazione a Brescia alle 13.15, pensando che, essendo l'ora di pranzo, ci fosse poca gente, ho trovato una coda di circa 500 persone al binario.
Yesterday I was on the "floating piers" by Christo on the Iseo lake, not far from Brescia, my town.
I arrived at the railway station at 1.15 p.m., thinking that, thanks to the dinner hour, there were a few people, but I found about 500  queing people.

Un po' sconcertata, mi sono messa in attesa facendo mia l'opinione di Christo, per cui anche il viaggio, con le sue attese entra a far parte della fruizione dell'opera.
A bit puzzled, I got in my queue by the opinion expressed by Christo, so that even the journey, with its delays becomes part of fruition of the artwork.
Alle 15.30 sono partita con il secondo dei treni arrivati nel frattempo, mentre la coda d'attesa si era enormemente allungata.
At 3.30 p.m. I left with the second of the two trains arrived in the meantime, while the queue was dramatically extended.
Dopo una sosta forzata ad Iseo per permettere il passaggio del treno proveniente dalla direzione opposta lungo la linea che è a binario unico, sono arrivata a Sulzano circa alle 16.30 ed il primo impatto non mi è piaciuto.
Mi è sembrato una specie di bivacco convulso, con gente sfatta dal caldo direzionata con apprensione e  nervosismo da esausti operatori del traffico alle prese con  una fiumana di autoveicoli in scorrimento sulla vecchia strada costeggiante il lago e una fiumana umana che doveva attraversarla.
After a forced stop at Iseo to allow the passage of the train coming from the opposite direction along the single-track, I arrived at Sulzano about at 4:30 p.m. and the first impression I did not like.
I felt a kind of convulsive bivouac, with people overblown by the heat directed with apprehension and nervousness by exhausted  traffic operators struggling with a flood of vehicles sliding on the old road bordering the lake and a human flood that had to cross it.





Poi è cominciato il percorso arancione, una specie di girone affollato e soleggiato, dove un pompiere, dall'alto dell'autobotte, spargeva un benefico vapore acqueo sulla folla.
Then it began the orange path, a kind of crowded and sunny spiraling trail, where a firefighter, from his tank truck, was spreading a beneficial water vapor into the crowd.

 Finalmente, alle 5 pomeridiane,senza alcuna soluzione di continuità nel percorso, mi sono trovata immersa nella  passerella e, subito, ho percepito l'ondeggiamento, una leggera vertigine.
At least. at 5 p.m., without any interruption in the path, I found myself into the pier and soon I felt the floating, a soft vertigo.

Non posso negare che la gran folla sia stata di ostacolo al primo incontro col floating pier, perchè il brusio, il chiacchiericcio non ti permettono di estraniarti e di sentire, per esempio, lo sciacquio delle onde che ti fanno oscillare.
I can't deny that the large crowd was an obstacle to the first meeting with the floating pier, because the buzz and the chatter do not allow you to estrange and hear, for example, the lapping of the waves that make you swing.


Ma ho tolto i sandali ed ho cominciato a camminare.
Procedendo, camminando, fermandomi ogni tanto ad assaporare la leggera vertigine prodotta dal fluttuare, guardando il movimento ondeggiante del pontile, ho cominciato a sentirmi veramente IN MEZZO ALL'ACQUA, IN MEZZO AL CIELO, INONDATA DI SOLE !!
Eh sì, perchè il sole c'era e picchiava bene.

But I took off my sandals and I started to walk.
Going ahead, walking, stopping occasionally to savor the slight dizziness produced by the floating, watching the swaying motion of the pier, I really began to feel myself AMONG WATER, IN THE MIDST OF HEAVEN, COVERED IN THE SUN !!

Yes, because the sun was there beating down well.

Procedendo, inoltrandomi nel lago, la passeggiata è diventata via via un percorso di progressiva partecipazione all'ambiente naturale ed il fatto che fosse collettivo non è più stato di disturbo.
Proceeding into the lake, the walk became a path of progressive involvement in natural environment and the fact that it was a collective walking, it was no longer a trouble.

Montisola, l'isola alla fine del primo pontile, è la prima meta, il tessuto dorato una strada fantastica sotto i piedi, oscillante ma sicura, purchè la si assecondi nel suo fluttuare, una strada che ti trasporta e ti culla, una strada di luce ...

Montisola, the island at the end of the first  pier is the first goal, the golden fabric is a fantastic way under our feet, swinging but safe, provided that you go along in its float, a path that transports you and cradles you, a light path ...
E poi avanti, lungo la costa dell'isola e poi ancora sull'acqua verso l'isoletta di San Paolo.
And then ahead, along the coast of the isle and then again on the water toward  the island of 
St. Paul.

Questa seconda tappa è una vera oasi, assolata da un lato, ombreggiata dall'altro, con l'ampio riposante pontile mollemente adagiato sull'acqua:
This second stop is a true oasis, sunny one hand, the other shaded, with large relaxing pier  softly lying on the water:

distendersi, chiudere gli occhi, fluttuare .....

relax, close your eyes, float .....

E poi avanti ancora, sull'acqua e nel sole, di nuovo verso Montisola.

And then ahead again, on the water, in the sun, toward Montisola again

 E noi, camminando, siamo attori e spettatori dell'opera, attori sul pontile che stiamo percorrendo e spettatori per coloro che camminano sugli altri pontili.
Il tutto appare come una rappresentazione del nostro cammino, il cammino dell'umanità sul nostro pianeta, che si svolge nel tempo, di tappa in tappa, tra Cielo, Acqua, Terra, una Natura che sarebbe da godere ed assecondare, come quando si cammina sui "pontili fluttuanti".
 We walk and we are actors and spectators of the opera, actors on the pier we're walking and spectators for those who walk on the other piers.
The whole appears as a representation of our journey, the journey of humanity on our planet, which takes place through time, step by step, between Heaven, Water, Earth, a Nature that would be to enjoy and indulge, like when you walk on "floating piers".



 Anche dalle fotografie, si vede che l'impatto visivo dell'opera è emozionante, per i contrasti cromatici e i giochi di luce, per la cangiante e accesa luminosità del tessuto.

Even from the photos, we see that the visual impact is exciting, for the color contrasts and the play of light, the iridescent and shining brightness of the tissue.

Qui, per esempio, sembra quasi che la teoria dei camminatori percorra un raggio di luce.
Ma, vista da altri mondi, la Terra non appare forse luminosa a quei lontani osservatori?
E allora, noi che sulla Terra compiamo il nostro cammino, per quegli osservatori non stiamo forse camminando sulla Luce ?
Here, for example, it seems that the theory of walkers walk a ray of light.
But, seen from other worlds, the Earth does it not appear like a bright object at the eyes of those distant observers?
So we, walking our journey on Earth, are we not walking on the light for those far observers ?

E dopo un tratto di costa tra gli ulivi, 

And after a piece of coast among olive trees,

 

di nuovo sul pontile fluttuante, di nuovo sull'acqua, per l'ultimo tratto 

again on the floating pier, again on the water, to walk the last section

prima di rientrare a Sulzano.
before returning to Sulzano.

P.S.
Il rientro in treno a Brescia è stato normale.
Ma, in fondo, anche quel tribolato viaggio di andata ha avuto la sua funzione: è stata una fatica che ha reso più fulgida l'esperienza sulla "passerella di Christo"

But, in the end, even that troubled outward journey had its function: it
 was a trouble which  made  more brilliant the experience of "the floating piers"

TAURUS: THE STARS, LE STELLE

Questa stella bella e splendente di luce arancione è Aldebaran, una gigante rossa con il diametro 40 volte più grande di quello del Sole che, oggi, trascorre il penultimo giorno al suo cospetto.

This beautiful and  orange lighted shining star is Aldebaran, a red giant whose diameter is 40 times larger than the Sun who, today, spends his penultimate day in his presence.

Più scientificamente, il suo nome è Alfa-Tauri, poiché Aldebaran è la stella più luminosa della costellazione del Toro.

More scientifically, his name is Alpha-Tauri, because Aldebaran is the brightest star in Taurus constellation. 

Sì, avete letto bene: oggi (18 giugno) è il penultimo giorno in cui il Sole è nel segno del Toro.

Le date astronomiche zodiacali, infatti, non sono più quelle indicate nell'antichità, come potete leggere "qui", per cui il segno del Toro non va più dal 21 aprile al 20 maggio ma dal 14 maggio al 19 giugno.

Yes, you read right: today (June 18) it is the penultimate day the Sun is in the sign of Taurus.

The astronomical zodiac dates, in fact, are no longer the ones indicated in ancient times, as you can read "here", so that the Taurus is no longer from April 21st to May 20th, but from May 14th  to June 19th .

Ammiriamo dunque questa bella costellazione e cerchiamo di individuare le forme dell'animale che l'ha ispirata.

So we admire this beautiful constellation, and we try to identify the animal forms that inspired it.

Subito vediamo che la splendente Aldebaran (50 volte più luminosa del Sole) corrisponde all'occhio destro del Toro e sembra allineata con le stelle che, disposte a forma di una V, corrispondono al muso.

In realtà si tratta di una illusione ottica, poiché queste stelle sono le Iadi, un ammasso stellare a 150 anni luce di distanza dalla Terra, mentre Aldebaran ne dista solo 60.

Immediately we see that the bright Aldebaran (50 times brighter than the Sun) corresponds to the right eye of Taurus and seems aligned with the stars that, arranged in the shape of a V, correspond to the muzzle.

Actually it is an optical illusion, because these stars are the Hyades, a star cluster 150 light years away from Earth, while Aldebaran is only 60 light years far.

In prossimità della punta del corno destro dell'animale c'è la nebulosa del Granchio, che dista 6500 anni luce dalla Terra.

Near the tip of the right horn of the animal is the Crab Nebula, which is 6500 years light from Earth.

Essa è costituita dai gas che, espulsi dall'esplosione della supernova che illuminò il nostro cielo nell'anno 1054 d.C., come riportato negli annali degli astronomi arabi e cinesi ed anche in pitture rupestri dei nativi americani, sono tuttora in espansione alla velocità di 1000km al secondo.

All'interno della nube di gas c'è una stella di neutroni che, insieme alla nube, è ciò che resta della stella esplosa 6500 anni prima dell'anno 1050, quando la luce prodotta dalla sua esplosione raggiunse la Terra e fu interpretata come una nuova stella estremamente luminosa, una "supernova".

La stella di neutroni ha un diametro di pochi chilometri ed una densità enorme; poiché si è scoperto che emette radiazioni con impulsi periodici, quella della nebulosa del Granchio è stata la prima stella di neutroni ad essere identificata come "pulsar".

It consists of the gas expelled from the supernova explosion that lit our sky in 1054 A.D., as reported in the annals of Arab and Chinese astronomers and even in cave paintings of Native Americans. The gas cloud is still expanding at the speed of 1000 km per second.

Within the gas cloud is a neutron star that, together with cloud, is what remains of the exploded star 6,500 years before 1050, when the light from its explosion reached the Earth and was interpreted as a new star extremely bright, a "supernova."

The neutron star has a diameter of a few kilometers and a huge density; since it was discovered that emits radiation with periodic pulses, that of the Crab nebula was the first neutron star to be identified as "pulsar".

Sul collo del Toro osserviamo le Pleiadi, un ammasso di stelle a luce prevalentemente azzurra distanti circa 440 anni luce.

On Taurus's neck we observe the Pleiades, a cluster of stars mainly blue shining, about 440 light years distant.

L'ammasso comprende centinaia di stelle fra le quali si diffondono nuvole gassose, ma gli antichi ne individuarono sette e furono le sette sorelle, le ninfe figlie di Atlante e Pleione i cui nomi sono riportati in questa immagine.

A questo punto cominciamo ad introdurci nella mitologia, che sarà argomento del prossimo post.

The cluster contains hundreds of stars including diffuse gas clouds, but the Ancients identified seven of them and they were the seven sisters, the nymphs daughters of Atlas and Pleione  whose names appear in this image.

At this point we begin to introduce us in mythology, which will be subject of the next post.
